Kitchen & Main Floor Renovation in Toronto

This kitchen and main floor renovation in Toronto transformed a closed-off, inefficient layout into a bright, open, and highly functional modern space.

By rethinking the layout and maximizing usable square footage, the project delivers a kitchen that feels significantly larger, more inviting, and better suited for everyday living.

Open Concept Kitchen Transformation

The original kitchen was an awkward L-shaped layout enclosed within its own room, paired with a small and underutilized eating area.

To solve this, the wall between the kitchen and family room was removed, and the separate eating area was eliminated to create one large, open-concept space.

Cabinetry was extended along both exterior walls, and a large 8’ x 4’ island was introduced at the centre of the kitchen.

This transformation more than doubled the storage capacity while dramatically improving flow, functionality, and overall openness.

Custom Kitchen Design & Layout

The new kitchen layout was designed to feel bright, airy, and highly efficient.

By removing upper cabinetry along the stove wall, the design allows the home’s tall ceilings to stand out, enhancing the sense of space and openness.

The oversized island serves as both a functional workspace and a central gathering area, ideal for entertaining and daily use.

Materials, Finishes & Timeless Details

The kitchen features custom painted cabinetry in a semi-gloss white finish, creating a clean and modern foundation.

Caesarstone Nougat quartz was used on the island, while Caesarstone Concrete quartz was selected for the perimeter countertops, adding subtle contrast and depth.

A classic 3” x 6” marble tile backsplash introduces a timeless element that complements both the modern cabinetry and contemporary appliances.

The combination of materials creates a balanced design that feels both current and enduring.

Overall Design Vision

This renovation focuses on maximizing space, improving functionality, and creating a cohesive modern aesthetic.

By opening up the layout and incorporating thoughtful design elements, the kitchen now offers a bright, spacious environment that supports both entertaining and everyday living.

A Unique Project Process

Due to the clients’ busy schedules, communication throughout the project took on a creative approach.

A large piece of plywood was used as a daily decision board, where questions, notes, and design choices were left for the client each day.

By the next morning, the board would be filled with responses, sketches, and markings — creating an evolving roadmap of the project.

It became a simple yet highly effective system that kept the renovation moving forward smoothly and collaboratively.
