Main Floor Renovation with Ravine Views in Toronto

This main floor renovation in Toronto transformed an aging home into a bright, modern, and highly functional living space while maximizing its incredible ravine views.

With a focus on opening up the layout and enhancing natural light, the project redefined how the home connects to both its interior spaces and the surrounding landscape.

Open Concept Layout & Structural Transformation

The main floor was reconfigured to create a seamless open concept layout connecting the kitchen, dining, and family room areas.

A structural wall separating the kitchen from the main living spaces was removed, and an additional opening was widened to improve flow between rooms.

At the rear of the home, two large openings were created in the exterior wall to install expansive sliding doors leading to the deck. This transformation dramatically increased natural light and created a strong visual connection to the ravine backyard.

The result is a significantly brighter, more open space that fully takes advantage of the home’s unique setting.

Custom Kitchen Design & High-End Appliances

The kitchen was completely redesigned and expanded, becoming a central feature of the home.

High-gloss white acrylic cabinetry was used along the perimeter to reflect natural light and enhance the open feel, while a warm wood grain island adds contrast and texture.

The oversized 9’ x 5’ island is finished with Caesarstone Pure White, paired with Caesarstone Coastal Grey countertops along the perimeter for a balanced and modern look.

Premium appliances from Thermador, including a panel-ready fridge and freezer, a 48” gas range, and a custom hood fan, complete the space with both performance and style.

For added comfort, a NuHeat heated flooring system was installed beneath the tiled kitchen floors.

Flooring, Fireplace & Living Space Design

The flooring was thoughtfully designed to define each space while maintaining a cohesive overall look.

A grey-vein porcelain tile was installed throughout the kitchen, complementing the cabinetry and countertops while offering durability and easy maintenance.

In the family room and TV area, pre-finished oak hardwood flooring was installed to introduce warmth and create a more comfortable, cozy atmosphere.

A new linear gas fireplace was added to the living space, serving as a focal point and enhancing the overall ambiance of the room.

Indoor-Outdoor Connection & Natural Light

One of the most impactful elements of this renovation is the connection to the outdoors.

The newly installed sliding doors and enlarged openings allow natural light to flood the main floor while framing stunning views of the ravine and surrounding greenery.

This design approach creates a unique “cottage in the city” feel, bringing nature into the everyday living experience.

Overall Design Vision

This renovation blends modern design, structural upgrades, and natural surroundings to create a space that feels open, bright, and inviting.

By combining high-end finishes, thoughtful material contrasts, and strategic layout changes, the home now fully reflects its incredible location while offering a functional and beautiful environment for everyday living.
